Composer and Performer

I literally have been composing and performing music my whole life. I am always writing and creating drafts and ideas to find concepts that I evolve when the inspiration presents itself. All this gets done with the purpose of finding and mining for unique ideas blessed with emotional content and magic of some sort.

Creativity comes in many forms and when it comes to music in particular, there exists a wide range of purposes and reasons for its creation. What almost always remains true is that music communicates across all boundaries and peoples regardless of their background.

Over my lifetime, I have been blessed with a diverse set of talents and an intuitive sense of what is the right thing to add to a piece of music when I hear it. My training started in 3rd grade and in high school I ventured from piano to bass and Hammond Organ, and then guitar in college. Piano and Hammond Organ are my two most disciplined and accomplished instruments, along with MIDI synthesizers and programming. But not far behind is bass and guitar. Guitar is probably the one instrument that has resulted in my most success in life due to my collaborations with Ottmar Liebert, Willie and Lobo, Lawson Rollins, Buckethead, and others.

I have traveled the world and been on major network TV performing on piano and synthesizer. But my developed ear, ability to read music, and knowledge of jazz harmony have allowed me entrance into the special realm of jazz and world music. These are my favorite and most accomplished areas of work. Modern and classic jazz, not cocktail lounge jazz, but jazz created by true world-class greats.

I have come to realize and respect the hours of work the world-class jazz and world musician has to apply in practice and performance. Early on I had that intense practice discipline and fortunately that brings me some degree of real depth and accomplishment on my instruments. But with my experience and the fact that I have focused on many different spectrums of skills, life has pulled me away from the everyday practice needed to be a fluent advanced jazz improviser. I do appreciate the voice I do have and how it differs from the greats that I get to work with. Fortunately, the story that is my music is still evolving.
